I'd take the armband off Rice if he's allowing us to get bullied like this.

Vexed has his moments, as we all do, but anyone who can conjure up *wrinkles like Freddy Krueger tattooed on a pensioner's ball bag* has to be given the benefit of any doubt, surely? The DNA thing is an 'in the blood' issue - I grew up in Leytonstone, and West Ham was in the air we breathed. It was bound to occupy a bigger percentage of our lives than someone who has picked up on them from 100 miles out, creditable though that is, due to the constant daily immersion in all things WHU.

*Anyone else notice in Declan’s interview after the game how he mentioned that Arsenal are very well coached.*
*Was that a sly dig at Moyes?*

Word has it that Moyes rarely takes the main training himself, but let's be honest, it would explain a lot, wouldn't it? He has had some excellent assistants under and around him up until early 2022, but once they left he has struggled, no two ways...

I was born less than 3 miles from the Old Den, up the road from the Richardsons, my old man did some work for them at their scrap metal yard all legal like, they gave him a good drink on top and fortunately didn't have to take a shirt. Most of the kids were Millwall so I should be a pikey.

But I started in the NB with by brother (who still has a season ticket) at 12yrs 73. I got dragged over CBL, I suppose people are right when they say there are many similarities, but they were a miserable bunch in comparison, a few mates got done traveling over the years to UP and back, the difference for me was the East End characters in those days who created a proper atmosphere and I was welcomed in along with many other mates from bandit country.

Vexed is a proper cunt, right lonely fuck with just the seagulls tapping on the roof of his Sheppey caravan.

But swindon hammer is an absolute helmet and has been on the wrong side of a hell of a lot of debates on here. Never admits when he’s wrong and lies and obfuscates (look it up ray) when bettered.

I’m Team Vexed. (For now)

Listen, I've had my fair share of disagreements with Swindon on here, and I thought he was talking a load of old bollocks on Moyes for a long while.

One thing I will say though, he is more West Ham than Vexed will ever be, regardless of where either comes from. 100%, all day every day. And there is not a chance Vexed is from anywhere close to East London, in fact, I don't reckon Vexed has even been to watch West Ham live.

Crassus.

Alright mate.

I think this is one of those situations that will never be explained fully unless you are of the ilk you and I are talking about.

My old man, his 5 brothers and his Dad were all welded on to the club. I was born 3 miles down the road from the Boleyn and the old man had me on the North Bank at the age of 4.

The actual football is only a part of 'being' West Ham, the rest if it and to me, equally important is all about roots and culture. Does this make me more fanatical than an 'outsider' No, I dont think so. But I have an identity with the club that someone not from that culture can never have.

Sorry if this pisses anyone off but they are my genuine thoughts/ feelings.

Oh and Swindon, I have neither patronised nor condescended your opinion
Merely attempted to illustrate your lack of perception of those closer to the club's historic roots

Billy

Spot on, I have read extensively upon the origin of the great football clubs, their origin and rivals/hatreds - globally

Not going to drone on about that now but they were ALL intrinsically based around a community expressing itself - football merely the conduit

Most of us here are of a certain age when during our formative years those values were foremost in the area of the club

For further reading take a look at the WH/Millwall industrial strife and why they are now south of the river. Mancs/Scouse and the Ship Canal or examine how the Newcastle/Sunderland issues date to the Civil War (Mackems); even the Bocca/River hatred

All values stamped from years/decades and centuries past into the DNA of today way beyond the 'supporting' a club

only1billybonds,

I totally understand that although the Liverpool comparison is slightly different in that I and many others didn’t jump on the West Ham bandwagon due to success.

I get what you were saying though and thanks for putting that view across in a way that is not patronising or condescending.

I just don’t like the suggestion that we are any less passionate about West Ham just because we don’t have the DNA of coming from East London or to my original point because I don’t come on here and call everyone cunts and act like a spoilt child having a tantrum.

That’s right Crassus, I don’t share the same DNA with Vexed that you do. Gutted I am!

You enjoy it son.

Swindon.

Many people say a Liverpool 'fan' born and raised in, lets say Surrey cant possibly feel the same connection to that club that a fan born and bred in the city of Liverpool does. I sort of agree and I'll (try to) explain why.

I think what our friend Crassus is saying is there's a difference between 'being' West Ham and supporting them. Icome from Limehouse, bang in the middle of the East End and Iv'e always seen West Ham as an extension of my working class roots and the area I'm proud to say I come from. This is in no way a dig, I'm merely trying to explain something that may be seen as such. I'm sure Crass will put me straight if I'm talking bollox.

Swindon

It's not for me to cast 'importance' of support

I am though positioned to qualify upon the historic understanding and expression, there lay the point which I suggest you miss from the core - not your fault, you don't have what we hold dear

Re: ⚽ Arsenal v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Crassus,

so just to confirm that if you don’t have the “DNA” of being born in East London and come from a line of West Ham fans then that’s makes you somewhat lesser in terms of how much you love West Ham?

Maybe you should tell that to the thousands of West Ham fans around this country and around the world that have spent more money and travelled many more miles to witness
the same frustrations and heartache as you and the others that have this “DNA”

As I said in my original post growing up as a West Ham fan in a place where there is not a lot of us around and where it would be far easier to support someone more successful and where you have to plan ahead and save up to have what is a whole day out to go and watch the team you love is mine and a lot of other peoples DNA.

It might be a different type of DNA to you but it’s no less important.
